Breaking Busy by Alli Worthington {#breakingbusy Review}

“Okay, let me get this straight. Women are sacrificing sleep, recreation, hobbies, friends, and even family all at the altar of busyness. So we aren’t sleeping, we aren’t taking care of our bodies, and we aren’t doing things we enjoy with people we love. Then what in the world are we busy doing?”

This question, posed by Alli Worthington on page 22 of her recent release Breaking Busy ~ How To Find Peace & Purpose In A World Of Crazy, hit me squarely on the forehead. I am not doing any of those things, so what, indeed, am I doing? I was hooked.

With humor and a refreshing frankness, Alli Worthington provides an insightful look into the key indicators of being too busy (yep, my emotions often run amuck, I am chronically late, and I don’t spend time doing things I want to do with the people I want to do them with) and addresses key factors that enable us to break the cycle of busy in order to discover the abundant life that God desires for us.

This is far more than wishful commiseration about a life not well lived. Regardless of your current season, successful business woman or trying to be a successful first-time mom, Breaking Busy is chock full of practical exercises and methods for gaining control over our schedules, making priority driven decisions, all while honoring God, ourselves, and our relationships. We can live life well and this book shows us how.

A great tool for an individual, I highly recommend this as a ladies small group resource. Read it together. Then encourage each other as you seek to change the areas you need to change in order to break busy and become who God calls you to be.
